Description:

I was doing some unrelated research in old Japanese books. I found this guy on a cover of what would translate to "Red Map" (from 1913) and I was instantly drawn to synthesizing him. His right foot (from our point of view) had been damaged by the original digitizer so it took quite a bit of effort to restore him, but I think it was worth it. Viola!

Setsubun Oni - Bean Throwing Ceremony Demon — In Japan, Setsubun is the day before the beginning of Spring. People throw soybeans outside their house wishing for demons to go out and good luck to go in. It's kind of a traditional thing but you still see these 'oni' (demon) masks up and around that time of year. This one is not so symmetrical, so not sure how it would work as a mask, but it could still work as a symbolic image representing that holiday I guess or a lopsided mask. (I drew this by hand, if you're wondering.)

Stagecoach Group — This picture conuses me. Who are the guys sitting on top. Are they robbers? If so, why arent the guys in front scared? And why isn't the shooting guy shooting the drivers? And if they aren't robbers what is the standing man shooting at? He's pointing at the horses, he's gonna cause the stagecoach to crash, and at that speed (and he's standing up) he'll surly be crushed! The logical inconsistencies in this picture are limitless
